Man opening car with key fob

Any new Lexus vehiclecomes with a key fob that’s meant to last 1-2 years before needing a Lexus key battery replacement. You may experience issues with locking and unlocking your vehicle towards the end of this period, and that’s frustrating! The service centerat Ray Catena Lexus of Freehold covers how to change the battery in a Lexus key fob and more below!

How to Know It’s Time for a Lexus Key Battery Replacement

Holmdel drivers will be alerted by their Lexus vehicle if their battery is low with an audio message that plays when their car is stopped. But there are other clues that you’ll need a Lexus key battery replacement:

  • You have to be closer to your vehicle to use your key fob because the proximity detection covers a smaller area.
  • You can’t see the LED indicator light on your key.
  • Your Smart Access system or push-button start isn’t operating.

How to Change the Battery in a Lexus Key Fob

A Lexus key battery replacement is a pretty simple process. Start by getting a flathead screwdriver and a CR2032 lithium battery. This battery should be at any Colts Neck-area hardware store, and a Lexus OEM parts centerwill be able to help you out if there’s any trouble. Here’s four simple steps for changing out the battery:

  • Press the button on the side of the key fob to release the emergency key inside of it.
  • Use your flathead on the inside of the key fob casing to get the cover plate off, revealing the battery.
  • Use your flathead to pop out the old battery
  • Place the new battery in with the same orientation as the old battery — positive side up. Now put the key fob back together.

If you’re having any issues, just schedule service in the Old Bridge area. We’ve got you covered!

How to Make Your Lexus Key Battery Last

Much like a phone or computer, you can actually put your Lexus key fob into battery saver mode! It’s a fairly simple process that’ll stop it from passive receiving radio signals:

  1. While holding down the LOCK button, press the UNLOCK button twice.
  2. You should see the electronic key indicator flash four times, indicating that you’re in battery-saver mode.
  3. Press any button to get the key fob working again!
